D'Aguilar National Park (Southern)
A short walk that is perfect for families through open eucalypt forest and subtropical rainforest to a boardwalk around a giant strangler fig.
This lightly trafficked, well-marked trail starts at the Boombana Picnic Area, on Mount Nebo Road.
This easy circuit is located in the southern section of D’Aguilar National Park’s and is perfect for families with young children.
The walk meanders through open eucalypt forest and lush subtropical rainforest to a giant 300-year-old strangler fig surrounded by a picturesque boardwalk.
From the boardwalk, there is an option to take the Postman’s Track – a short side-track through rainforest to Mount Nebo village (1.2 kms return), passing some nice rock stairs and wooden footbridges.
The walk is a favourite with birdwatchers, particularly in the early morning.
Track: Graded and well-signed, the track is easy to follow, with limited elevation gain.
Difficulty: The track is suitable for all fitness levels.
Direction: The loop track can be completed in any direction, however it is recommended to go clockwise and leave the boardwalk and strangler fig until the end. Alternatively, you can head anti-clockwise and do a shorter out-and-back track to the strangler fig if that is your main attraction.
getting there
The trail starts from the Boombana Picnic Area, on Mount Nebo Road in Mount Nebo, 45 minutes drive northwest of Brisbane.
Parking is ample for how trafficked the walk is.
best time to go
The walk can be completed year-round.
Early morning or late afternoon are the best times to complete the walk if wishing to see wildlife.
Always check the Queensland Parks website for updates on track closures.

This means: dispose of your waste properly, don't remove things or move things from their natural position and respect all wildlife.
