Purling Brook Falls & Warringa Pools

A short walk with plenty to offer, from spectacular waterfalls, to breathtaking lookouts, a rock pool and lush, dense rainforest.
This heavily trafficked, well-marked trail starts at the Gwongorella picnic area at the end of Forestry Road in Springbrook.
The walk features Purling Brook Falls, a 106m high single-drop fall that plummets into a beautiful pool at its base. The curved cliff line that envelopes the falls only adds to the scale.
The walk also passes the base of Tanninaba Falls, a beautiful waterfall in its own right often overshadowed by the main falls.
The 2 km side-track to Warringa Pools is not to be missed, with a series of cascades culminating in a stunning small waterfall and large rockpool.
There are numerous lookouts atop the plateau with spectacular views into the Springbrook valley, including two with stunning views of Purling Brook Falls.
There is also a suspension bridge near to the base of the main falls.
Important: Be sure to stay out of the restricted access area, including the old track that used to go behind the main falls.
Track: Graded and well-signed, with steps and railings at times. The track is easy to follow. The descent and ascent into and out of the forest is via a number of gradual switchbacks and a large number of stairs.
Difficulty: The track is suitable for all fitness levels, however does include a short, steep descent and ascent into and out of the valley.
Direction: While the track can be completed in either direction, clockwise is recommended as the elevation profile is more forgiving (walking down the stairs and ascending via the switchbacks).
getting there
The trail starts from the Gwongorella picnic area at the end of Forestry Road in Springbrook, 1.5 hours drive south of Brisbane.
Parking is ample, however this walk is heavily trafficked, especially on weekends, so it can fill up.
best time to go
The walk can be completed year-round.
An early start on a weekend or a weekday visit is advised.
Like all walks involving waterfalls, they are best done after recent rain, however be sure to check the Queensland Parks website for updates regarding flooding and track closures.
Remember, whenever venturing into the outdoors, practice the Leave No Trace principles and be considerate of others. This means: dispose of your waste properly, don't remove things or move things from their natural position and respect all wildlife. Also be sure to plan ahead and adequately prepare for any adventure.
