A beautiful walk or cycle along the waterfront of Sandgate, with views across Bramble Bay to Moreton Island, before reaching the Houghton Highway Bridge.

This heavily trafficked walk starts at the southern end of the Sandgate Foreshore, however can be started from any point along the foreshore to suit your desired length.


The walk is an easy stroll or cycle along the foreshore with uninterrupted views across Bramble Bay to Moreton Island, as well as south to the Shorncliffe Pier and north towards the Houghton Highway Bridge and further to Woody Point.


There are sealed footpaths along the entire foreshore, with ample space for pedestrians and cyclists.


At the southern end of the foreshore, there are ample picnic tables, BBQs, as well as a playground and aquatic centre.


Steps lead down to the beach, which can be explored on low or mid-tide.


Further north towards the bridge, small rock walls and covered benches provide places to stop and enjoy the view.


The view of the bridge from the centre is quite unique. It is also advised to venture to the remaining head of the old bridge, for more views of the bridge, as well as up towards the Tinchi Tamba Wetlands.


The walk is best completed at sunset or sunrise on high tide, however, is lovely at all tide times.


Track: The walk consists of sealed footpaths and is easy to follow.


Difficulty: The walk is an easy stroll suitable for all fitness levels, including those in wheelchairs. The walk is flat for the entire foreshore.


Direction: This is an out-and-back walk that returns the way it came.

getting there

The walk starts from the southern end of the Sandgate Foreshore, on the corner of Flinders Parade and Cliff Street in Sandgate, 30 minutes drive north of Brisbane.


Note that the walk can be started and finished wherever you please to adapt the distance.


Parking is ample.
