An off-track hike for experienced bushwalkers only, requiring substantial navigation and scrambling skills, to one of the most impressive dual waterfalls in all of Lamington National Park.
This hike is for experienced hikers only, with a high level of fitness, off-track navigation skills and the capability of scrambling for long periods in exposed areas, essential.
There are tape makers, but these are sparse and can be difficult to locate, so should not be relied upon.
The climb in and out of the canyon is loose, steep and at times quite exposed and goes for some time.
Rock hopping is required for a number of kilometres up Albert River to get to Thunder and Lightning Falls (Black Canyon), with many cascades and smaller waterfalls observed along the way.
The falls are truly spectacular, and the difficulty associated with accessing them means you are unlikely to come across any other people.
Given the isolated nature of this area and the risks associated with the hike, specific location and route guidance details are not provided.
It is highly recommended that only experienced hikers, with off-track navigation skills and high levels of confidence with scrambling in exposed areas, attempt this walk. There are particular sections of this hike that would be dangerous for less experienced hikers.
