Great Sandy National Park (K'gari - Fraser Island)
An easy creek-side walk beside the beautiful Wanggoolba Creek, with ample wildlife to spot and historical sights to see.
This moderately trafficked walk starts at the Central Station day-use area.
The walk is an easy stroll along a sealed path and connecting wooden boardwalks through towering rainforest, alongside Wanggoolba Creek (a freshwater spring creek).
Keep an eye out for birds and lizards, which are plentiful in the area, as well as fish and eels in the creek.
The rainforest towers overhead, providing plenty of shade, but also creating a micro-climate that allows the flora and fauna in the area to flourish.
The walk starts and ends in the picnic area, where historical relics of a bygone logging era, as well as plenty of informative signs, can be found.
Track: The track consists of sealed paths and wooden boardwalks and is easy to follow.
Difficulty: The track is an easy stroll and is suitable for all fitness levels.
Direction: While this track can be done in either direction, it is recommended to do it clockwise.
getting there
The trail starts from the Central Station day-use area on Wanggoolba Road on K’gari (Fraser Island).
The trail is located 30 minutes drive northwest of Eurong, via an inland track. A high-clearance 4WD is required to get to the walk.
K’gari (Fraser Island) is located 300kms north of Brisbane and is accessed via ferry from either Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay. A high-clearance 4WD is required to visit the island if not going with a tour.
The boardwalk starts and finishes near the information display at the Central Station day-use area.
Parking is ample for how trafficked the walk is.
best time to go
The walk can be completed year-round.
