Main Range National Park (Goomburra)
While the Goomburra Section of Main Range National Park is typically known for its peaks and lookouts, this track proves it also has some beautiful waterfalls.
This moderately trafficked, well-marked trail in the Goomburra Section of Main Range National Park starts at a small car park off of Lookout Road.
The walk is level at first before descending into the forest, crossing the top of the falls and then descending sharply to the base of the falls and its pool.
The falls are definitely more spectacular after rain, however generally still nice to view.
The falls are named after the towering hoop pines that were once logged in the region, and there remain a number of these among the lush rainforest.
Be sure to visit the lower falls just downstream of the main falls. These can easily be viewed from the top - or for those with rock scrambling capabilities, from the base.
This track is located on Lookout Road (a 4WD track) and is well paired with Sylvester’s Lookout and Mount Castle Lookout, as well as the longer North Branch and Winder Tracks.
Track: Graded and well-signed, the track is easy to follow. The descent and ascent into and out of the forest is for the most part gradual, with a short, steep section from the top to the base of the falls.
Difficulty: The track is suitable for all fitness levels.
Direction: This is an out-and-back track that returns the way it came.
getting there
The trail starts from a small car park area off of Lookout Road in Goomburra, 2.5 hours drive south-west of Brisbane. A 4WD or high clearance vehicle is recommended for getting to this location.
The car park is small and can fill up quickly on weekends.
best time to go
The walk can be completed year-round.
An early start on a weekend or a weekday visit is advised.
This walk is best done after recent rain, in order to see water flowing through Araucaria Falls, however is a pleasant walk at any time. If completing after recent rain, be sure to check the Queensland Parks website for updates regarding flooding and track closures.

This means: dispose of your waste properly, don't remove things or move things from their natural position and respect all wildlife.
