Mount Castle Lookout
Scenic Rim
Main Range National Park (Goomburra)
A short walk to a lookout offering slightly obstructed views of Mount Castle.
This moderately trafficked, well-marked trail in the Goomburra Section of Main Range National Park starts at a small car park off of Lookout Road.
The walk is short, with minimal elevation and passes through lush rainforest, with strangler vines creating an interesting web through the trees.
The constructed lookout provides obstructed views of Mount Castle and the valley below.
This track is located on Lookout Road (a 4WD track) and is well paired with Sylvester’s Lookout and Araucaria Falls, as well as the longer North Branch and Winder Tracks.
Track: Graded and well-signed, the track is easy to follow.
Difficulty: The track is suitable for all fitness levels.
Direction: This is an out-and-back track that returns the way it came.
getting there
The trail starts from a small car park area off of Lookout Road in Goomburra, 2.5 hours drive south-west of Brisbane. A 4WD or high clearance vehicle is recommended for getting to this location.
The car park is small and can fill up quickly on weekends.
best time to go
The walk can be completed year-round.
The lookout is most beautiful at sunrise or sunset or a clear day or with light, wispy clouds.

Remember, whenever venturing into the outdoors, practice the Leave No Trace principles and be considerate of others.
