A short walk to a beautiful ocean rock pool, with options for snorkelling and swimming nearby – a hidden gem in Jervis Bay.

This lightly trafficked walk is located between Currarong Beach and Abrahams Bosom Beach, and can be accessed off a small side-street off Beecroft Parade, in Currarong on the Beecroft Peninsula.

A short stroll across a small grassy park brings you to the rock pools - a sandy channel cutting parallel between two sets of rocks along the edge of the bay.

The rock pool is about 5m wide and 30m long, with a sandy bottom and just deep enough to swim in. Swimming is best on the receding tide after the high.

There are a set of stone steps cut into the rock, as well as a metal handrail to assist with entering the pools.

There are no toilets or showers at the rock pools, but there are a few covered picnic tables.

Dolphins are often spotted in the calm waters of the surrounding bay.

Afterwards, it is possible to walk further north to Abrahams Bosom Beach to south to Currarong Beach for more swimming.

As with any ocean-side rock pool, it is important to swim to the conditions. The pools can become rough and dangerous on high tides and in heavy surf.

Note that the pools are not supervised by lifeguards, so caution is required when entering the water, and children should be supervised at all times.

This is a great location to pair with nearby Point Perpendicular Lighthouse and Honeymoon Bay.

Track: There is no defined trail to the pools, with the walk being a flat stroll across a grassy picnic area. The location is unsigned but is easy to locate.

Difficulty: The grassy picnic area is flat, making it easy and suitable for all fitness levels. The site is wheelchair accessible with assistance. The beach is not supervised by lifeguards, so caution is required when entering the water, and children should be supervised at all times.

Direction: This is an out-and-back track that returns the way you came.

getting there

The walk is located from a small side street off Beecroft Parade (the next street on the left after the boat ramp), in Currarong on the Beecroft Peninsula, 2.75 hours drive south of Sydney.

There is no car park, but rather street parking, and it is typically ample for how trafficked the location is.

best time to go

The walk can be completed year-round.

Given this is an ocean-side rock pool, it is important to swim to the conditions. The pools can become rough and dangerous on high tides and in heavy surf.
