D'Aguilar National Park (Mount Mee)
A half-day walk through a variety of forest types to a magnificent lookout toward Lake Wivenhoe and Somerset Dam.
This lightly trafficked, well-marked trail starts opposite the small road to the parking area for The Gantry, on Sellin Road.
Alternatively, if you have a high-clearance 4WD, you can drive to within metres of the lookout along the Western Escarpment Forest Drive.
This track winds through a range of vegetation changes, including scribbly gums, heath grass, piccabeen palm groves and pockets of lush rainforest, with wildlife aplenty.
Somerset Lookout, which includes a constructed platform, is located at the halfway point of the trail and offers uninterrupted views to the west towards Lake Wivenhoe and Somerset Dam, as well as the surrounding mountain ranges.
While the constructed lookout offers exceptional views, there are also a number of rocky outcrops along the ridge line offering similarly spectacular views. With the exception of the lookout, there is no barrier at the cliff edges, so care is required.
The trail crosses a number of multi-user tracks frequented by 4WDs, mountain bikes and horses, so care is required when crossing these tracks.
The day-use area at The Gantry has toilets, picnic tables and BBQ facilities. Nearby tracks include Rocky Hole, Bulls Falls and Falls Lookout and the Mill Rainforest walk, all of which require high-clearance 4WDs to get to.
Track: Graded and well-signed, the track is easy to follow.
Difficulty: The track is relatively easy, however the length requires a moderate level of fitness. With the exception of the lookout, there is no barrier at the cliff edges, so care is required.
Direction: This is a loop track that can be completed in either direction.
getting there
The trail starts across the road from the small road to the car park for The Gantry, at the end of Sellin Road in Mount Mee, 1.25 hours drive northwest of Brisbane.
Parking is ample for how trafficked the walk is, however The Gantry day-use area can get very busy on weekends and public holidays.
best time to go
The walk can be completed year-round, however sections of the walk are exposed to the sun, so the walk might be more difficult in the warmer months.

Remember, whenever venturing into the outdoors, practice the Leave No Trace principles and be considerate of others. This means: dispose of your waste properly, don't remove things or move things from their natural position and respect all wildlife.
